Woodpeckers

There’s a woodpecker pecking at the corner of my bedroom. It’s incredibly annoying. And I know by now that all things are on purpose and so I sat down and listened and asked the woodpecker what it wanted me to know. Mostly I think it was asking me to listen and pay attention. Since I’m so curious, I also googled the woodpecker totem. I found that these birds symbolize power, opportunity, wisdom, resilience, kindness, and determination… they serve as a reminder not to give up, even when all seems hopeless.

I’m reminded to look at the bigger picture and to give thanks for the unknown

I think it’s like this: there are signs all around us. There’s always a pull of becoming, a pull towards LOVE, and then there are the pulls toward the same old ruts we used to follow. We’re creatures who love consistency and also crave change! Consistency is comforting. And there’s really nothing wrong with it. It can be so healing. But when the time comes to make a change… we have to honor it. And sometimes that nudge comes in really annoying ways- like a health issue or a woodpecker!

If you’re facing a challenge right now or if you find yourselves at a crossroads, I ask you this: What if you zoom out? What if you take a look at your life/situation from a bird’s eye view? It’s hard to see the whole picture when we’re in the picture, so often times it’s necessary to shift our perspectives. Occasionally it helps to look at things from another person’s point of view, or look at it from the side, or from above, zoom out, zoom in… then we gather more information! I’m a person who needs all the information I can gather, then I have to chew it all up and digest it and then I can find my clarity. So, while it can be viewed as indecisive (ahem!) it can also be viewed as taking my time to gather information to make an informed decision that I feel good about! Now, I have this with choosing the right kind of coffee creamer so you can imagine how magnified it gets when it’s a move, or another big life decision!

In conclusion friends, always choose love. Always keep going. Always look for signs that the Universe is supporting you fully and cheering you on -because she is! And because, what we look for- we find! I love looking for hearts- not looking for them so much as just noticing when they appear! Heart shapes are everywhere for me. Do you have a ‘sign’ or a symbol that helps to guide you when you’re asking for it?

Stay close to center friends, we’re ‘Braving the Wilderness’ (a great book by Brene Brown!) together. xo
